MCL injury treatment in Kota

Inner-Knee Stability, Restored with Precision.

The MCL supports the inner side of the knee. Accurate grading helps determine whether bracing and rehabilitation are enough or repair or reconstruction is appropriate.

Understanding the ligament

What Is the MCL?

The Medial Collateral Ligament connects the femur to the tibia along the inner knee. It resists outward force and supports alignment in walking, running and sport.

Common causes

A blow to the outer knee, twisting, direction change, awkward landing, fall or road accident can stretch or tear the MCL.

Symptoms

MCL Injury Warning Signs

Inner-Side Pain

Pain and tenderness over the MCL.

Swelling & Stiffness

Reduced movement after injury.

Difficulty Walking

Pain while putting weight on the leg.

Giving Way

A feeling of knee instability.

Sport Limitation

Difficulty running or changing direction.

Catching or Locking

May suggest meniscus involvement.

Classification

Three Grades of MCL Injury

GRADE 1

Ligament Stretch

Mild tenderness with little instability.

GRADE 2

Partial Tear

Partial fibre injury with swelling and some instability.

GRADE 3

Complete Tear

Full rupture with significant instability and possible associated injuries.

Evaluation

Diagnosis Before Treatment

Orthopedic Examination

Pain, swelling, movement, ligament laxity and knee stability are assessed.

MRI & X-Ray

MRI reviews the MCL, ACL, PCL, meniscus and cartilage. X-ray checks for fracture.

Treatment

Most MCL Injuries Heal Without Surgery

Non-Surgical Care

  • Rest, ice, compression and elevation
  • Protective brace when required
  • Gradual restoration of movement
  • Physiotherapy and strengthening

When Surgery Is Considered

  • Persistent instability
  • Associated major ligament injuries
  • Displaced or avulsed MCL
  • Complex knee instability
Surgical options

MCL Repair vs Reconstruction

MCL Repair

The existing ligament is restored when an acute injury and tissue quality are suitable.

MCL Reconstruction

A tendon graft recreates stability when the native ligament is chronically insufficient.

Patient questions

MCL Injury FAQs

Do all Grade 3 MCL tears require surgery?

No. Many isolated Grade 3 injuries heal with proper bracing and rehabilitation.

When is repair possible?

Repair may suit selected acute avulsion or repairable injury patterns.

What is reconstruction?

A tendon graft recreates stability when the original ligament is insufficient.

When can I return to sport?

Return depends on healing, strength, stability and functional readiness.
