Arthritis Treatment

Manage pain. Protect your joints. Preserve movement and independence.

Arthritis is not simply “joint pain.” It includes conditions that can affect the cartilage, lining and other structures of a joint, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness and reduced movement.

At Durva Hospital, Kota, Dr. Hitesh Mangal provides orthopaedic evaluation and personalised treatment planning focused on identifying the type and severity of arthritis, managing symptoms and maintaining joint function.

Inflammation, degeneration or structural changes within one or more joints.

Arthritis is a broad term covering conditions that can make walking, climbing stairs, working, exercising and other everyday activities increasingly difficult.

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are different conditions. Accurate diagnosis is important before deciding on treatment.

Two Important Forms

The right plan begins with the right diagnosis.

Although both conditions affect joints, their causes, patterns and medical management are different.

01 · OA

Osteoarthritis

A degenerative joint condition in which cartilage and other joint structures gradually change over time. It commonly affects the knees, hips and other weight-bearing joints.

Often linked with gradual wear, previous injury, alignment, body weight and age.
02 · RA

Rheumatoid Arthritis

An autoimmune inflammatory disease in which the immune system attacks the lining of joints. It may affect multiple joints in a symmetrical pattern and can have effects beyond the joints.

Requires comprehensive medical management and, where appropriate, rheumatology input.

Osteoarthritis

When joint degeneration begins affecting everyday movement.

Osteoarthritis can develop gradually. Symptoms may initially occur during activity and later become more persistent as the condition progresses.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

An inflammatory condition that requires comprehensive medical management.

Rheumatoid arthritis differs from age-related osteoarthritis. It is an autoimmune inflammatory condition that often affects multiple joints.

  • Joint Pain
  • Swelling
  • Morning Stiffness
  • Warm or Tender Joints
  • Reduced Movement
  • Fatigue

Patients may require ongoing treatment from an appropriate physician or rheumatology specialist, alongside orthopaedic care when structural joint damage or surgical issues need attention.

Arthritis Evaluation by Dr. Hitesh Mangal

Understand what is happening inside the joint.

Evaluation considers the type and duration of pain, stiffness, swelling, range of motion, stability, walking ability, previous injuries, medical conditions and the effect on daily life.

Depending on the clinical findings, X-rays, blood tests or other appropriate investigations may be advised. Suspected rheumatoid arthritis may require additional specialist evaluation.

Non-Surgical Arthritis Treatment

Preserving the natural joint whenever clinically appropriate.

Many patients with early or moderate osteoarthritis may initially be managed without surgery.

Mobility & Strength

  1. 01
Control SymptomsManage pain and inflammation appropriately.
  2. 02
Improve MobilityWork on flexibility and comfortable joint movement.
  3. 03
Build StrengthSupport the affected joint with stronger muscles.
  4. 04
Restore FunctionImprove walking and everyday activities.

Physiotherapy & Strengthening

A stronger joint is supported by stronger muscles.

Appropriate physiotherapy may help improve mobility, flexibility and muscle strength around an affected joint.

For knee arthritis, strengthening the muscles supporting the knee can form an important part of conservative management. Exercise recommendations are personalised according to the patient’s joint condition, age and functional ability.

Selected Joint Injections

For selected patients, injections may be considered. Dr. Hitesh Mangal discusses their expected role, limitations and alternatives before proceeding.

When Is Joint Replacement Considered?

When arthritis significantly limits quality of life.

In advanced osteoarthritis, pain and stiffness may continue despite appropriate conservative treatment. Replacement may be considered when symptoms significantly interfere with walking, mobility, sleep, work or normal daily activities and clinical evaluation supports surgery.

The decision is made after detailed evaluation—not from an X-ray alone.

When Should You Consult?

Do not let joint pain quietly reduce your world.

Consider an evaluation for persistent joint pain, recurrent swelling, morning stiffness, reduced movement, difficulty walking, pain on stairs, changes in alignment or symptoms increasingly affecting everyday activities.

Early assessment can help establish the type of arthritis and create an appropriate long-term management plan.
