Trauma &
Fracture Care

Rapid assessment. Precise treatment. A structured path back to movement.

A fracture or serious orthopaedic injury can happen unexpectedly — through a road accident, fall, sports injury or everyday incident. The right assessment and timely treatment are important not only for healing the bone, but also for restoring alignment, movement, strength and long-term function.

At Durva Hospital, Trauma & Fracture Care focuses on the evaluation and management of simple as well as complex bone and joint injuries. Under the care of Dr. Hitesh Mangal, each treatment plan is based on the type of injury, fracture pattern, affected joint or bone, patient’s age, overall health and functional requirements.

01 Accurate assessment & appropriate treatment

From simple fractures to complex orthopaedic injuries

Not every fracture requires surgery. Some fractures can be treated with appropriate immobilisation, while unstable, displaced or complex fractures may require surgical fixation.

After clinical examination and appropriate imaging, treatment may include:

Plaster & Immobilisation • Fracture Reduction • Plating • Nailing • Surgical Fixation • Complex Fracture Management • Rehabilitation & Follow-up

Trauma & Fracture Care

01

Accident & Orthopaedic Trauma Care

Care when an injury needs timely attention

Road accidents, falls and high-impact injuries can affect bones, joints, ligaments and surrounding soft tissues.

Trauma evaluation focuses on understanding the extent of the injury and identifying fractures, dislocations and associated orthopaedic damage.

Depending on the injury, treatment may involve stabilisation, immobilisation, reduction, surgical fixation or other appropriate orthopaedic procedures.

02

Complex & Multiple Fractures

Individualised planning for challenging injuries

Some injuries involve multiple fractures, significant displacement or damage around important joints. These cases may require more detailed surgical planning and a carefully structured recovery pathway.

Treatment decisions consider factors such as fracture location and pattern, bone and soft-tissue condition, joint involvement, overall health and functional requirements.

The objective is to support bone healing while preserving alignment, stability and movement as much as clinically possible.

03

Plating & Nailing

Stable fixation to support fracture healing

For selected fractures requiring surgery, internal fixation techniques such as plates, screws or intramedullary nails may be used to stabilise the broken bone.

The appropriate fixation method depends on the bone involved, fracture pattern, location and individual clinical situation.

Stable fixation can support proper alignment and allow rehabilitation to progress according to the patient's healing and surgeon's guidance.

04

Non-Union & Malunion Fractures

When a fracture does not heal as expected

Occasionally, a fractured bone may take longer than expected to heal or may heal in an incorrect position.

A non-union occurs when a fracture fails to heal adequately, while a malunion refers to a fracture that has healed in an abnormal position.

These conditions require careful evaluation to understand why healing has been affected. Depending on the case, treatment may involve correction of alignment, revision fixation, bone grafting or other appropriate procedures.

Orthopaedic Care

When Should You Seek Orthopaedic Care?

An orthopaedic evaluation should be considered after an injury if there is severe or persistent pain, significant swelling, visible deformity, inability to move or bear weight, loss of normal joint function, or a suspected fracture or dislocation.

Severe accidents, open wounds over a suspected fracture, numbness, loss of circulation or major deformity require urgent medical attention.

Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

Every fracture is different. Its treatment should be too.

Evaluation may include a physical examination and appropriate imaging such as X-rays, CT scans or other investigations, depending on the nature and complexity of the injury.

The findings help determine whether the injury can be managed conservatively or requires surgical treatment.

Patients and families are guided through the diagnosis, proposed treatment, precautions and expected rehabilitation pathway.

Healing the bone is only part of recovery.

After appropriate fracture treatment, rehabilitation can be important for restoring movement, muscle strength and everyday function.

The timing of movement and weight-bearing depends on the fracture, treatment performed and progress of bone healing.

Follow-up examinations and imaging may be used to monitor healing, while physiotherapy and rehabilitation are introduced according to individual clinical requirements.
