Sports Injury

Recover stronger. Move with confidence. Get back to the activities you love.

Sports injuries can affect anyone — from professional athletes and competitive players to runners, gym-goers and people who simply enjoy staying active. A sudden twist, fall, impact or repetitive movement can damage ligaments, muscles, tendons, cartilage or joints and significantly affect performance and everyday mobility.

At Durva Hospital, sports injury care focuses on identifying the exact cause of the problem and creating a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan. Under the care of Dr. Hitesh Mangal, patients receive specialised evaluation for knee, shoulder and other musculoskeletal sports injuries, with the aim of restoring stability, strength and functional movement.

From diagnosis to return to activity

Every sports injury is different. Some conditions improve with rest, rehabilitation and appropriate non-surgical treatment, while significant ligament, cartilage or tendon injuries may require surgical management.

Treatment may include:

Clinical Assessment • Injury-Specific Imaging • Physiotherapy • Rehabilitation • Joint Preservation • Arthroscopy • Ligament Reconstruction • Meniscus Treatment • Follow-up & Return-to-Sport Planning

Knee Sports Injuries

Restoring stability, strength and movement

01 · Knee Sports Injuries

Restoring stability, strength and movement

The knee is particularly vulnerable to sports-related injuries involving sudden turns, changes of direction, jumping, landing or direct impact.

Common knee sports injuries include:

  • ACL Tear
  • PCL Injury
  • MCL Injury
  • Meniscus Tear
  • Cartilage Injury
  • Patellar Problems
  • Knee Instability

Symptoms may include pain, swelling, difficulty bending the knee, locking, catching or a feeling that the knee is giving way.

Treatment depends on the specific structure involved and the degree of damage.

02 · ACL & Ligament Injuries

When knee stability is affected

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is one of the major stabilising ligaments of the knee. It can be injured during sports involving sudden stopping, twisting, pivoting or changes in direction.

Not every ligament injury requires surgery. Treatment depends on the severity of the tear, associated injuries, knee stability and the patient's activity requirements.

For selected patients, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction may be considered to restore stability and support a safe return to higher-level activity.

03 · Meniscus & Cartilage Injuries

Preserving healthy tissue and maintaining the natural joint

The meniscus acts as an important shock-absorbing structure inside the knee. Twisting injuries can result in a meniscus tear, while trauma or repeated stress may also affect joint cartilage.

Where clinically appropriate, treatment focuses on preserving healthy tissue and maintaining the natural joint.

Depending on the injury, management may involve rehabilitation, arthroscopic meniscus repair or other appropriate procedures.

Shoulder Sports Injuries

Stability and movement for an active shoulder

Sports involving throwing, lifting, swimming or repetitive overhead movement can place considerable stress on the shoulder.

Conditions may include:

Shoulder Dislocation • Recurrent Instability • Rotator Cuff Injuries • Labral Injuries • Tendon Problems • Sports-Related Shoulder Pain

Treatment can range from rehabilitation and strengthening to arthroscopic procedures for selected injuries.

04 · Muscle & Tendon Injuries

Sports injuries are not limited to joints and ligaments.

Muscles and tendons can be affected by sudden overload, repetitive activity or inadequate recovery. Strains and tendon-related problems can occur around the shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle and other areas.

Treatment focuses on identifying the injured structure, controlling symptoms and gradually restoring strength and function.

05 · Tennis Elbow & Golfer's Elbow

Repetitive wrist and forearm movements

Repetitive wrist and forearm movements can lead to tendon-related pain around the elbow.

Despite their names, tennis elbow and golfer's elbow can affect athletes and non-athletes alike.

Management may include activity modification, rehabilitation, strengthening and other treatments based on the severity and duration of symptoms.

06 · Arthroscopy for Sports Injuries

Minimally invasive treatment when clinically appropriate

Arthroscopy, or keyhole surgery, allows selected joint injuries to be evaluated and treated through small incisions using a camera and specialised instruments.

It may have a role in selected cases involving ACL/PCL injuries, meniscus tears, cartilage damage, rotator cuff injuries and shoulder instability.

Arthroscopy is not required for every sports injury. The decision is made after detailed clinical evaluation and appropriate investigations.

Do All Sports Injuries Need Surgery?

No.

Many sports injuries can be successfully managed without surgery.

Depending on the diagnosis, initial management may include rest or activity modification, medication where appropriate, physiotherapy, strengthening, mobility exercises and a structured rehabilitation programme.

Surgery is considered when clinically indicated based on the nature of the injury, functional instability, associated damage and individual requirements.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

Treatment is only the beginning — returning safely matters too.

A patient feeling better does not necessarily mean an injured joint or ligament is ready for unrestricted sporting activity.

Rehabilitation can focus on:

Mobility → Strength → Stability → Balance → Sport-Specific Movement → Gradual Return to Activity

The rehabilitation programme depends on the injury and treatment performed. Return to sport or high-level activity should be based on clinical progress rather than a fixed timeline alone.
